“You have all the neurological machinery to transcend time, to make this a skill. What some might call miracles, I describe as cases of individuals working toward changing their state of being, so that their bodies and minds are no longer merely a record of their past but become active partners, taking steps to a new and better future.”
“Transcending the Big Three: Peak Experiences and Ordinary Altered States of Consciousness At this point, you understand that the main obstacle to breaking the habit of being yourself is thinking and feeling equal to your environment, your body, and time. . . .”

aa IMG_0392They are that aspect of us that sacrifices all to give to others.

Our Mothers Watch Over Us Even When They Are Gone

When the singer says sometimes I feel like a motherless child, we feel her pain because we know that those words mean she has lost spiritual grounding.  She can no longer see the spiritual ancestors that continue to give birth to us, to love, to protect, to heal us.

WALK IN YOUR LIGHT By Cecilia B. Loving

ownership 8Your light is your legacy. It is so inseparable from you that you are obligated to let it shine. In Matthew 5:14-15, Jesus said: “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a candle and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men that they may see your good deeds.” You cannot pick and choose who will benefit from your light.

You must be generous enough to share it with everyone. How? By simply doing35 what I have called you to do – walk in your light, walk in your purpose, and walk in your calling. Do what you love to do, what you do best, what harms no one else – and the joy that you give will be beyond your comprehension. Sharing your gifts and talents has a viral effect that will flow through the universe and bless millions for ages to come.

What you don’t realize is that even after you make your transition from this life, your light will still shine so brightly that it will lead people everywhere. Paul told the Ephesians (5:8), to walk as children of Light. Walk in obedience to Spirit. Walk in the beauty of discipline. Walk in the power of faith.

Walk beyond the confines of your self-imposed limitations, so that I can shine through you. Walk as an unlimited expression of all that I AM. You cannot judge your gifts and talents. You 2cannot see the fullness and wholeness that you contribute to the Universe simply by being the best that you are. Don’t lose your way because of what other people say or do or think. You are uniquely you for a reason. The lack of support, criticism or condemnation by some of my other children is like the wind. It is as fleeting as a single breath.

Don’t be fooled by cowards and haters to be a second-rate you. You are more than a diva, you are the divine. Walk in the beauty of your light. Otherwise, you will never give me the life that you have promised me in the Spirit, and the Promised Land will always be a distant reality.

Your greatest achievements began as divine ideas that no one else believed in. Jesus said (Matthew 25:34), “Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the11 - Copy (2) kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.” Come you who no longer care what others think. Come you who are no longer afraid to move forward into the greatness that you are. Come you who believe in the magnificence of Spirit. Come you who have brought oil for your lamp and are willing to let your light shine through.

Come all ye faithful. Come ye, O’ come ye to Bethlehem – that house of bread, that place of substance, that center of Truth. O’ come Beloved, from the far country, and behold the 25Christ within. O’ come Spiritual Rebirth, come with the Light of a new day. O’ come embrace the power that you were given, the true gift of transformation, the joyous deliverance that you can attain through a consciousness of Spirit.

You were called before your birth. The Buddhists ask “do you remember what your face looked like before your parents were born?” Jeremiah said before we were formed in the womb, God knew us. Before we were born, God set us apart (Jeremiah 1:4-6).

You may not remember exactly where you are going or know how you will get there, but I will lead the way. I will give you the voice and the vision and the victory that you need. I will part the Red Sea so that no one will deter you from your path.

As I told the Psalmist, “Do not touch my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm” (Psalm 105:15). Just stay on the path, as Denzel Washington said in The Book of Eli. Stay on the path70 of righteousness, regardless of evildoers. Return from the far country. Go on about my business. Don’t just get a glimpse of the Promised Land, but be in the right consciousness to enter it. Be a believer – not just in somebody else’s testimony, but know me for you. Shut up and listen to Spirit for yourself. Be liberated in the unlimited power of all that you are.

Walk the walk and talk the talk – with the sword of my power. Watch a thousand fall at your side and ten thousand fall at your right hand and nothing come near you (Psalm 91:7).

7 - Copy (2)This reminds me of the Israelites who were at the edge of the wilderness, when Moses blessed them as they journeyed into the Promised Land. They were not just standing on the bank of a river to cross. They were on the threshold of a new consciousness. They were not just leaving the wilderness because they had traveled a certain distance, or mapped out a particular strategy, or had served a certain amount of time. They were crossing over because they were ready.

The Promised Land is not a physical place. It is a place in consciousness that gives you spiritual food that feeds your mind, soul and heart, the unlimited feast of my Kingdom. It is a place where you will no longer be captive to the wilderness of your own negativity, grumbling, and strife.

It is a place where materialism and greed will no longer enslave you. But you cannot get there until you are ready.

The number forty in the Bible symbolizes preparation rather than a specific number. Forty years in the wilderness means as long as it takes to get ready.

You are ready when you realize that I AM always working with you for your greatest good. I will always feed you enough manna – enough spiritual food to sustain you.

great 7 You are ready when you stop worrying about what other100 people say or think. As Terrie Cole Whitaker says, What You Think About Me is None of My Business. You are ready when you are willing to make the sacrifices that need to be made to accomplish what you want. You are ready when you learn that I AM within.

You are ready when you can bless even the appearances of life – whether they are bad or good – because you realize that they are the motivation that you need.

You are ready when you understand that love is the spiritual law that supersedes all others.

Love does not judge but is unconditional.

Love has an all-encompassing heart that fulfills Karma with Grace.

You can accomplish anything with the power of love.

If you are worried or doubtful or in need, all you have to do is bless the situation with the power of love.

LOVELove is my energy in its most powerful form.

Love allows you to be compassionate toward everyone, even when they second-guess you, because you know that they are part of your blessing.

Even when others mean something for evil, I mean it for good (Genesis 50:20).

They serve as the catalyst that pushes you beyond your comfort zone and make you aim higher than you ever aimed before.

You cross over to the other side when you know that you are blessed with my anointing.

You never know how you are going to make it there.

But you can trust that I will put the right people on your path to push against your resistance and pull you across the threshold to something better and greater.101

You have spent enough time in the wilderness.

You are ready to do what I have called you to do – ready to walk in the newness of life,

and nothing and no one can stop you.

Since 2012’s 40-day Challenge, we have continued and have now challenged ourselves to over 700 days of meditation.

Why?  Because it changes our lives and centers us so that we listen to the divine within.

FIFTY WAYS TO LOVE YOURSELF

Carl Sandburg said “Time is the coin of your life. It is the only coin you have, and only you can determine how it will be spent.”  He adds, “Be careful lest you let other people spend it for you.”  Jesus said it differently, he said “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God” (Luke 9:60)(NIV).   How do we proclaim the Kingdom of God?  How do we enter it, realize it, become one with it, be uplifted by it, be glorified by it?  We don’t have to wait until the afterlife.  In Luke (17:20-21), Jesus says the kingdom of God is in us.

Jesus is saying that we have to love ourselves.  But we don’t.  Instead, we distract ourselves with other people, places, things – even opportunities so that we don’t have to stare deeply into the face of our own love – a love that is powerful, a love that is infinite, a love that is true, a love that never fails nor forsake us because it is the omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent God expressing and loving as us.

We cannot live our lives righteously without loving ourselves.  We cannot do what we were called to do – without loving ourselves.  We cannot be the best that we can be without loving ourselves.  When we learn to love who we are, we begin to understand that we live, move and have our being in love, which is what John called “God” (1 John 4:8).  There are infinite ways to love ourselves, so 50 ways is by all means the tip of the iceberg – but these 50 ways to love ourselves were prepared in honor of our 50th birthdays.

1.  RE-DISCOVER YOUR TRUE SELF.  The first way to love yourself is by re-connecting with the energy of God’s love through your breath.  You have to breathe mindfully.  Close your eyes and breathe, realizing that in each breath that you take, you awaken to your power.  In each breath that you take, you know that you have nothing to fear. Breathe in and re-discover your divine connection with God.  Remember that God is breathing you as the greatest gift of love that there is.  Breathe in and “do not be anxious about anything, just give your requests to [God]”  (Philippians 3:6).2.  LISTEN TO LOVE.  God is always talking to you; you just need to listen.  Take a second right now, and listen.  Isaiah said “When you turn to the right or when you turn to the left, your ears shall hear a word behind you saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it’” (Isaiah 30:21).  When you really listen, you can hear the Universe saying “I love you – with an everlasting love.”3.  SEE LOVE.   See with a single eye the love that surrounds you with an aura of compassion, and fills your body temple with wholeness, and goes before you as all-powerful love — to do the work that you were appointed to do.  Jesus said “the light of the body is  the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light” (Matthew 6:22).  See nothing but love, and its energy with allow you to witness the fullness of its presence and power.4.  AFFIRM LOVE.    In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God (John 1:1) – and that word, the most powerful expression of God as you is “I AM.”  Affirm I AM, which acknowledges the Spirit in you.  The “I AM” allows you to raise your vibrations higher instantly in the realization that you are pure God presence expressing as you.5.  PRAY INTO YOUR GREATNESS.   In the book, God is a Brown Girl Too,you are reminded that “When you stand on the edge of pure possibility, you can use prayer as the impetus to fly.”  Nothing is impossible with God.  God is always praying you, and when you take the time to pray, it is only so that you remember that the Universe has already aligned with your intention to give you what you want, to manifest the answers that you need, to bless you with the gifts that await you.  God knows what you need before you even ask (Matthew 6:32).                                                                                                             6. STRETCH BEYOND DISBELIEF INTO BELIEF.  Jesus said “Stretch out your hand” (Matthew 12:13).  Stretch beyond hate into love; stretch beyond fear into love; stretch beyond jealously into love – every day when you feel some resistance, some tightness, some anxiety – just allow yourselves to stretch beyond the box that you’re in – with love.

7.  MOVE WITH A NEW COURAGE.  When you move, you are telling your body that you love it and you allow it to say “I love you” because it becomes fitter and stronger.  When you don’t have a regime of moving your body, you believe that you don’t need it anymore and it begins to age and stop working.  But when you move, you remain more youthful.  Stand up and say “feet I love you, heart I love you, muscles I love you.”  As Paul said, “in God I live and move and have my being” (Acts 17:28).

8.  DRINK LIVING WATER.  As much as 70% of your body can be made up of water, so you have to be diligent about loving yourself with what you need.  You can take a sip of water and say “water I love you.”  But you can also drink the unseen water, the substance of love – living water – and say “love I feel you,” and really feel love filling our bodies, minds and souls. Jesus said “[w]hoever believes in me . . . rivers of living water will flow from within them” (John 7:38).

9.  EAT THE BREAD OF LIFE.  Jesus said “I am the bread of life.  Whoever comes to me will never go hungry.” The bread of life is manna, the unseen nourishment, the unseen goodness that you are always surrounded by – just waiting for you tap it.  So there is no need to overeat. There is enough to feed us and sustain you.  You need only eat the foods that love you – not the foods that harm you.

10.  EMBRACE A NEW ORDER.  When you love yourself, you allow yourself to be open to the divine order of the universe.  You realize that God is present in every step that you take, that God is working out every detail for your greatest good; God is penetrating every aspect of your being to work out every single detail for your greatest good.

11.  TAKE UP YOUR BED AND WALK.  Take up your bed and walk – first, by leaving your past behind (remember, Lot’s wife kept looking back and she turned into a pillar of salt); second, by being fully responsible for your life (no, you cannot wait for some other person or for some other time); third, by refusing to limit yourself (there is no limit on your happiness or success).   Rise up and say “I’m gonna get up and take charge.”

12.  ALLOW YOUR DREAMS TO GUIDE YOU. – Loving yourself deeply makes you open and receptive to the power of your dreams.  Say “I will allow my dreams to guide me.”

13.  TRUST THE KINGDOM.
Desires, intuition, visions, divine mind are always directing you to what you are here to do.  Take a moment and acknowledge that you love the Kingdom within enough to trust it, be guided by it, and be obedient to its guidance.

14.  LIFT THE WEIGHT.   Ernestine “Ernie” Shepherd, at age 75, is a personal trainer, a professional model, a competitive bodybuilder and happier and more fulfilled than she’s ever been in her life. She started working out for the first time in her life at age 56.  She has no aches or pains; has 9 to 10%  bodyfat —  single-digit percentages usually reserved for elite-professional male athletes in their prime! She takes no medications.  And she loves her new life’s work and has never been more successful.  Say “I will lift and love lifting the weight that makes me healthy.”

15.  RELEASE.   When you love yourself, you realize that you have no need to hold onto anything or anyone; you can let go of the past – including past acquaintances, situations, obstacles, fears because the Kingdom of God loves you so much, it will help you surrender what you don’t need.  Think of one person or one situation you need to release and see yourself sending it love, and letting it go.

16.   FORGIVE SEVENTY-TIMES SEVEN.  When you love yourself, you realize that you cannot reap the inexhaustible source of the universe if you are blocking the flow of your good with anger, resentment, lack, or unforgiveness.  And sometimes you forgive everything and everyone except yourself.  So let’s love yourself in this moment by forgiving yourself – 70×77 – for whatever you did – whatever you carried into this room, whatever you are ashamed of.  Close your eyes and say “I forgive you.”

17.  LAUGH.  Laughter is the greatest gift that you can give yourself.  Laughter massages your soul with good loving and frees your spirit to experience true joy.  Say “I will laugh when it’s time to laugh, and enjoy every moment of it – and most of all I will laugh at myself.”

18.  CRY.  When you hurt, crying is the best way to release your pain.  Tears are a way of telling yourself that whatever emotion you are experiencing, it’s okay.  Tears are also a way of expressing joy.  Say “I’m gonna cry when I need to.”

19.   CELEBRATE.  Celebrate who you are – your unique talents and skills, and the love that God has in creating no one else like you.  What other people think of you is none of your business.  When you’re really loving you, you don’t care.  Think of one thing right now – or one reason to celebrate you.

20.  CHANGE.  Loving yourself allows us to operate, use, turn on, tap into the unique power that we have to improve ourselves.  Change for the better.

21.   REST.  Love your life by finding the time that you need to enjoy other places, other people, other things, and to go within for more quality time with the love of your life – you.  Take a ME day.  (On the 7th day, even God rested.)

22.   CREATE.  Create with a new power. Second Timothy says in Chapter 1, Verse 7 that “God did not give us a spirit of timidity or fear; but a spirit of power….”  God loves us by allowing us to use the creative energy of the universe to heal, bless and uplift through our creative abilities.  Honor your creative abilities as your greatest gift.

23.   WRITE.  Loving ourselves improves when we write to reconnect with the love within.  Make a commitment to keep a journal or just notes to remember who you are.  If you write on Facebook, you can use that – just cut and paste into a separate document.  Write and be led by your writings.

24.   HEAL WITH  A NEW WHOLENESS.  Stop choosing struggle and pain, and you won’t experience it.  If it shows up unexpectedly, deny its presence and affirm the power of the “I AM”: I am perfect, whole and complete!

25.   START ANEW.  Each day and every moment, you have the power to begin anew.  Just affirm that you are at a new beginning.  Paul said, “I die daily” (1 Corinthians 15:31).  Be reborn in the resurrection of God’s power expressing as you.

26.   STUDY TO SHOW YOURSELF APPROVED.  Studying is love.  We study because we love ourselves enough to want to grow in wisdom.  Say “I will always be a student of love.”

27.  DANCE WITH A NEW FREEDOM.  When you dance in the Spirit, you know that if patterns of negativity keep showing up in your life — such as disharmony, loneliness, pain, physical discomfort,  financial insecurity, lack, worry, doubt — you can change them.  You can wake up from your self-limiting thought and you can experience the ceaseless flow of good — and turn your life around.  You can dance!  When  you dance in the Spirit, you shake the dust off your feet.  You bless the people who are not in accord with your greatest good, who do not support you and do Spirit calls you to do.  Dancing allows us to love ourselves, without worry, without fear, and without missing a beat. When we dance, we let go and go with the flow.

28.  SPEAK.   When we love, we speak words of good, words of empowerment, words of encouragement, words always contain the power that manifest the change that we need.  Speak only words of love.

29.  LEAP AND THE NET WILL APPEAR.  Take a risk.  Do what you only dreamed of but never dared to do.  Leap!  Say “I will leap because the net will appear.”  Love is the net that will catch you.  Either the universe will catch you or teach you how to fly.

30.   EMBRACE.  Embrace people worldwide with your love, including on Facebook, via telephone, letters, email, and in person.  The best way to receive love is to give it.  Hug somebody right now.

31.   COMPETE ONLY WITH YOURSELF.  You are your most fierce competitor and your most formidable adversary.  But here’s something you might not know, when you really love you – nothing can defeat you, so you have already won the race.  Surrender to the victory that you are. Call forth your extraordinary power.  Say “I win the race by loving me.”

32.   FIND TIME TO LOVE YOUR BODY.  – Find time to love your body.  Find time the time that need for your manicure, pedicure, hairdresser and massage.  Loving yourself means never ever looking shabby.

33.  CLAIM YOUR GOOD.  All you have to do is ask, and receive.  You can have the car, the spouse, the house, the trip, the joy that you desire – all you to do is claim it.  Right now, decide on 1-3 things that you want.  And say to yourself – I love me, so I will have [ insert your desire ]. If you want it, claim it.  This is simple: you are changing your consciousness so that what you want, claims you.

34.   BECOME NO. ONE ON YOUR LIST OF PRIORITIES.

35.   SAY NO TO WHATEVER WILL DRAIN YOU, USE YOU, MARGINALIZE YOU, LIMIT YOU.

36.   GET HELP WHEN YOU NEED IT.

37.   SMELL THE ROSES AND THE LAVENDER AND THE ROSEMARY AND WHATEVER ELSE SMELLS DELICIOUS AND SURROUND YOURSELF WITH IT WHENEVER YOU CAN.

38.   FIRE YOUR INNER CRITIC.  It’s past time to be unconditional in your love.  End all conversations that lie about how you do not have it going on: you do – wherever you are and whatever you are doing, you do.  You are the bomb.  You got the right stuff baby.  You got it going on.  No one can lose with the stuff you use.  Say I fire my inner critic.

39.   BE STILL.  Being still allows you to be at peace in the love that you are and to re-connect to the power that God is, and to feel the Kingdom expressing as you.  Just take a second and be still.  As the Psalmist says, “be still and know that I AM God” (Psalm 46:10).

40.   BE PATIENT.  We cannot love ourselves without patience.  Say I will love being in the moment.  I am patient.

41.   MOVE FORWARD.  Move forward into untouched spaces and realize YOU ARE more remarkable than YOU could ever imagine.

42.   BE GRATEFUL.   Oh, this is truly an energy of love.  Gratitude opens you to the realization of unlimited source and supply.  Say “I am grateful because I am always blessed,” and watch your blessings multiply.

43.   LOOK INSIDE AND SAY I LOVE YOU.  We fail to do that; we tell everyone else that we love them, but we don’t love ourselves – no one can love us unless we open the door to their love by loving ourselves.  Sometimes I think why are you not there to love me, but I wasn’t there to love myself.

44.   SHINE YOUR LIGHT.   In Matthew 5:14, Jesus said: “You are the light of the world.  A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.  Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.  Let your light shine so before men that they may see your good works…”  You cannot pick and choose who will benefit from your light.  You must be generous enough to share it with everyone.  How? By simply doing what I have called you to do.  Somewhere, someone told you that you weren’t good enough, but you need to tap into the higher power of your love and shine your light.  Say I’m shining my light today!

45.   NEVER GIVE UP.  The moso is a bamboo plant that grows in China and the far east. After the moso is planted, no visible growth occurs for up to five years – under ideal conditions! But if it gave up, it would never see its full growth and potential.  Your struggles are there for a reason; those are the things that ultimately matter; it has nothing to do with the prize at the end. As Og Mandino says, “Never will I allow any day to end with a failure.  I WILL NEVER GIVE UP. When others cease their struggle, then mine will begin.  I WILL NEVER GIVE UP. I will greet the new sun with confidence that this will be the best day of my life.  As long as there is breath in me, that long will I persist.  For I know, if I persist long enough — I will succeed.”

46.   MOVE OUT OF GOD’S WAY.   All you really have to do is lay the groundwork and move out of God’s way.  In the Book of Matthew, the 6th Chapter, the 8th Verse, it says that God knows what you have need of before you even ask.  The good that you seek is already part of the endless energy of God.  The only person standing in the way of that good is you — when you give your power away to people and events and the appearances of stuff.  Say “I’m going to move out of God’s way!”

47.   PUT YOUR HOUSE IN ORDER.   In the 2nd chapter of John, we learn that Jesus found  those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers doing business there — and he made a whip of cords.  He drove all of them out of the temple,  overturned the tables, and screamed “Take these things away! Do not make My Father’s house a house of merchandise!” Then, His disciples remembered what the Psalmist said, “Zeal for Your house has eaten Me up.”   God’s cleansing power goes deep into the veins and the inner parts of you for true confession.  Zeal — the pure presence of God — holds you accountable for your stuff — for anything that you do that is inconsistent with Spirit.  If your right eye offends you, pluck it out; if your right hand offends you, cut it off.  You need to do your own self-inventory and make sure that you are acting with commitment, leadership and integrity.  You need to clean out the contradictions that undermine your faith; and you need to remain vigilant to destroy any ousted enemy that tries to sneak back through your thoughts, words or deeds.

48.   STOP WORRYING ABOUT SOMEBODY ELSE’S BUSINESS.  You can’t worry about what somebody -sposed to be doin.’  That’s too toxic.  You have to realize that who you are in the flesh is a compliment to who you are in the Spirit.  You have to recognize that you are the good in everything that you experience.  As soon as you ask, you begin the process of receiving.  The only way that you shut the door — is by not believing.  When you give praise and thanks for the manifestation of your good, then you allow it to take shape.

49.   REAP WHAT YOU HAVE NOT SOWN.  In John 4:38, Jesus told his disciples “the saying ‘One sows and another reaps’ is true. I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor.”  You are really above creation’s cause and effect subjugation.  If you are centered in God – in love, you will reap without measure the infinite reward of Spirit.  God’s desire to express through you is so great that you will even reap more good than you sow.  Jesus told his disciples in Matthew 9:37 that “the harvest is plenty but the workers are few.” At some point in your lives, you have stopped short of your true potential, but the love of God will give you favor, so that in all things, at all times, you will have what you need.  Accept God’s favor.

50.    MOVE TO THE END OF YOUR RAINBOW.  What people rarely focus on in For Colored Girls is that at the end of the play, where Ntozake Shange says “& for this is for colored girls who have considered suicide/ BUT are moving to the ends of their own rainbows.”   In other words, they are not tragically ending life but have come to the realization that they reach the end of their rainbows when they love themselves.  Shange says, “i found god in myself, and i loved her fiercely.”  The love that you need, you have within.   Shange says “my love is too beautiful to have thrown back in my face; my love is too sanctified to have thrown back in my face; my love is too magic to have thrown back in my face; my love is too music to have thrown back in my face.”  We relate to love on a human level — based on what we give and receive.  But on a spiritual level, love is not giving or receiving — love  simply is.  We evolve in it.  We create out of it.  We are reborn in it.  We are sanctified by it.  We are saved as it.  Love is the only  salvation that there is.  It doesn’t worry about receiving because it is constantly giving.  It doesn’t worry about giving because it is always being blessed.  There is nothing that it needs or lacks because Love is divine source.  See good radiating from you like endless streams of light bouncing off the edge of all possibility.  Don’t let your stuff walk off.  Claim it. Witness your own love as the ultimate salvation.  See prayers swinging from every space in creation.  Hear blessings beings harvested in answers declaring this is a new season.  Nothing is impossible.  Move to the end of your rainbow, and find God again and again.

WHERE IS YOUR GOLDEN VOICE? By Cecilia Loving

Ted Williams, “the man with the golden voice,” is teaching all of us something from his meteoric rise to fame.  Everyone seems to be holding their breath for his success.  We pray that he is redeemed from self-destruction because we don’t want an unhappy ending to this modern day miracle.  We pray that God will not only protect him from his own demons but also from the vultures that have lined up, patiently awaiting.

We’ve all been there before — perhaps not in Ted’s infamous shoes.  But when opportunity presented itself, there was something in us that longed to return to the cozy familiar.  Perhaps we resolved to change our lives forever, never to make the same mistakes again.   Perhaps we felt the fresh breath of triumph in our lungs and breathed it as long as we could — until we faltered and eventually needed the strength of something stronger than flesh.  Somewhere in the distance, we heard our golden voice but it seemed to fade, die out, or just not sound like us anymore.

We were so eager for Ted Williams to tell our story that we summoned him from obscurity to speak with his golden voice.  We root for Ted because we are rooting for our own success.  He can do it — he can do it — he can do it!  Or if we are the negative sort, we moan that he’ll fail, he’s a con artist — or the most inspiring — once a drug addict always a drug addict.  We know that Ted needs help.  Gratefully, Dr. Phil has offered him at least 90 days of treatment at a remote rehabilitation facility.  But the real question is not what Ted is going to do, it is what are you going to do?  Where is your golden voice?  What talents are you allowing to go to waste?  What dreams do you need to dust off?  What resolutions have you made year after year that now lie buried on a journal page?

Ted Williams teaches us a few lessons about using our God-given talent.

First, the gifts that God blesses us with can survive the greatest storm.  Ted Williams had been at rock bottom, strung out on crack, addicted to alcohol and homeless.  But despite the odds, he still persevered and God sent him an angel.  A reporter from The Columbus Dispatch posted a 97-second clip of him on its website, holding a handwritten cardboard sign, which read I have the “God-given gift of voice.”

Second, God opens the doors that need to be opened.  The Columbus Dispatch video was posted to YouTube by an anonymous user.  Within 48 hours, the video went viral, receiving over 13 million page views.   This lead to numerous morning show appearances and potential job offers to do advertising, sporting events and even a potential spot on Oprah’s new OWN Network.

Third, if we don’t put God first, our good will disappear just as quickly as we receive it. Putting God first is a daily process.  It’s not something that we do once and never worry about again.  Salvation is not a one-time experience.  Salvation is an ongoing process.  Being tapped into and turned on to God is an everyday ritual of meditation, prayer, affirmation, study, and silence.  Williams showed us that if we don’t put God first, we will more easily revert back to our old ways.   (He got drunk and fought but hopefully will resist in the days to come.)

Fourth, Ted Williams is proof that we all have a golden voice.  We just need to use it.  By our “golden voice,” I don’t mean how we sound but the inner gifts that we each uniquely bear.  Ted’s children attempted to shame him by asking “where have you been?”  But that is the same question they need to be asking themselves.  We come not from our parents but through them to be the best that we can be.  The irony is that our challenges ultimately become our gifts.  We have the capacity to become better people because of them.

No one tells this story better than Wayne Dyer about his alcoholic father.  Dyer’s father abandoned his family and he and his siblings sometimes lived in foster homes.  But Dyer says that his father’s own dysfunction became his greatest teacher. “Growing up in Detroit orphanages I was immersed in opportunities to learn self-sufficiency at an early age,” Dyer says.  “Of course, so were all the other children around me. It’s just that I was already aware, by age 10, that whatever happened to me, my own destiny was right in my very own little hands and in nobody else’s.”

Dyer says that true healing comes from making a conscious choice to “live your life based on the notion that there are no justified resentments.”  What a liberating concept: there are no justified resentments.  I do not have the right to be resentful against anyone or anything.  What I do have the right to do is to dance to my own music, create my own rhythm, find my own golden voice.  Dyer said that when he stood at his father’s grave, he didn’t curse him, he sent his father love — and in that instant, he was liberated.

Every day gives us an opportunity to heal and be restored in the righteousness of God.  There is no need to hold onto the past; or worry about what we did or didn’t do.  There comes a time when we have to shake the dust off our feet, and keep on moving.

We send you love Ted Williams.  We know you have been the best that you had the capacity to be under the circumstances.  Now, we pray for you to put on a new self.

No matter what, we are glad that we heard your golden voice.  You are living proof that this is our season.  We are taking shape and creating form in the cosmic ethers like fresh seed falling on new earth.  Just like in the Garden of Eden, the true manna of God Source is all around us.  Thank you for reminding us that we each have the gift to listen to God and to hear a golden voice inside of us.  Perhaps it is singing “I ain’t gonna study war no more.”  Perhaps it is testifying, “I’m gonna touch the hem of Jesus’ garment.”  Perhaps it is praying,  “I’m gonna rise like Lazarus.”  It doesn’t matter.  The most important thing is that we listen, and hear ourselves taking charge in a new way.

Namaste,

Reverend Cecilia Loving

SPIRITUAL FITNESS: Move Out of Your Way By Cecilia Loving

When we first awaken, when our mind is free and clear of distractions, when we remember that we are one with the universal source of all there is, the first thing that we should do is pray.  We should give honor to the air that we breathe and the space that we take up.  We should remember the “AUM” and the “I AM” and the “Amen”.  We should remember that we are greater than the appearances, that we can move forward with the divine guidance that the Holy Spirit gives us, that we can allow — really allow God to bless us.  But what do we do?  We sit on the toilet — in la la la land.  We get a cup of coffee and watch the news.  We run to the gym and work out like a maniac.  We pick up the cell phone and text.  We rush off to work late because we decided to stay in bed for a little while longer.  But all we need to do is enter that secret place, and remember that God is in charge.

When we are spiritually fit — all the rest of our good follows.  Excess fat begins to disappear.  Circulation improves.  Complexions clear up.  Blood sugar returns to a healthy level.  Bloating stops completely.  Strangely enough, we stop tending to everybody else’s business.  We don’t have time to talk about how they don’t have their acts together.  We stop focusing on their shortcomings so that we can ignore our own.  We stop second-guessing ourselves.

When we second-guess ourselves, it’s because we don’t really want to believe that God is an on-time, everywhere present God.  It’s easier to believe that we can’t rather than we can.  It’s easier to hold onto to who we used to be — rather than surrendering our olds ways so that we can allow a new self to emerge.

Spiritual fitness is a blessing that requires us to live by new standards.  We have to let go of the thoughts, hesitations and fears that prevent us from seizing new opportunities.  We cannot keep telling the same stories.  We cannot keep repeating the same mistakes.  We cannot keep hiding behind bad habits.  We cannot keep believing that we are poor, that we are sick, that we are sad, that we are depressed, that we are anything less than the image and likeness of God that we were made in.

Matthew 19:26 says “with God, all things are possible.”  But for some reason, we prefer to make our lives difficult.  We could just let go and let God — but instead, we try to be in control.

God — the will of Spirit that is everywhere present, the will of universal intelligence that goes before us, the will of inexhaustible supply that opens endless channels of blessings for us, the will of divine ideas shaping and molding and forming the ethers into the creative manifestation of our desires, the will that is willing to be our counselor and our teacher and our guide — knows more than we do.  God knows that there is a balm in Gilead.  God knows there is a river that never stops flowing.  God knows that manna rains, in fact it pours down from heaven.  God knows that when we leap the net will appear.  But we first have to surrender.  We have to stop fighting in the flesh what God has commanded us to do in the Spirit.

When we first try to walk the water of infinite possibilities, we may feel like we are drowning.  We may think that we are losing control — but only because we’ve never been in control in the first place.  In the physical, we see nothing but chaos, confusion and strife, but ultimately we will find ourselves safe — protected — secure — and right where we should be.  All we have to do is be willing.

The Psalmist says “Create in me a pure heart, O’ God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.  Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.  Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.”  (Psalms 51:10-12)  He is saying, I am tired of wandering in my own misery.  I am tired of not being willing to let go and let God.  I am tired of being tossed — to and fro in the waters.  So give me a willing spirit.  Help me stop blocking my good.  When I’m willful, when I’m resentful, when I’m selfish, when I’m jealous, when I’m controlling — I create the toxic energy that closes all of the channels of my blessings.  So move me out of my way!

We have heard about what Jesus called “good news.”  He says right in the scripture — that our good doesn’t end with his story, his prophecy, or his miracles.  He taught us that we don’t have to get it right in the flesh because He has sent us a helper — the Holy Spirit — to teach us all things.  It’s not a Spirit that we need to seek because in John 14, Jesus teaches that this is a Spirit that lives in us.  It’s not a Spirit that needs our guidance because  John 16 teaches that the Spirit of Truth will guide us in all things.  All we have to do is move out of its way.

Jesus said tear this temple down, and in three days, he would raise it up.  He wasn’t talking about the church, he was talking about his body.  He said let not my will — but your will be done.  He gave his life to demonstrate that greatness doesn’t stop with Him, because Spirit gives us the opportunity to do even greater things than Jesus — when we surrender to its will and not our own.

Spiritual fitness is when we can trust the universe because we know that God can do no more for us than God can do through us.  We have to be willing to accept that it’s not what we ask God for that really matters.  What is most important is realizing that we are One with God’s source.  We are One with the will that never stops teaching us to be Absolute Good.  We are One with the vortex that never stops opening channels of divine ideas.   We are One with every miracle, every poem, every possibility, every rhythm, every divine vibration ever imagined.

Spiritual fitness is when we are simply centered in saying “yes,”  knowing that God will take care of the rest.

Namaste,

Reverend Cecilia Loving

A MIRACLE OF FAITH

At church last Sunday, we were blessed with a powerful testimony of faith.

After leaving the God is a Brown Girl Too® Retreat, a number of participants stopped by a gas station on their way through Manhattan.  Between the excitement of saying good-byes, giving directions and jumping back into cars, someone lost their wallet.  She didn’t realize it until she got back into her car and was approaching Brooklyn.

Unfortunately, by the time her attention turned to the wallet, she had been maneuvering through traffic on I-95 and the last time she had seen the wallet was when she laid it on the hood of her convertible.

A car hood is a vulnerable place to have a wallet sitting on any moving vehicle — not to mention on top of one in fast-moving traffic on a NYC highway.  The steps that one would have to retrace to locate it would be impossible to recreate.  Here, the various scenarios of it flying off into oblivion would be too numerous to imagine, especially because the last point of contact — the gas station — was miles away in the distance.   But after such an extraordinary women’s retreat, only faith filled the hearts of the passengers concerned about the missing wallet.

Charged with faith, one of the passengers called the gas station.  One counseled the driver to have faith that the wallet would manifest.  Another passenger used her faith to pray for a favorable outcome.  And after she was ministered to, the driver decided not to worry about her wallet.  With faith, she continued driving to Brooklyn and left the matter in the hands of the universe.

When she faithfully got out of the car to drop off her first passenger, she witnessed what she called a “miracle.”  Her wallet was still sitting where she had put it — not in a fold or a crease — but right on her hood!  It was as though divine order had converged the centrifugal force of space and time and gravity to suspend the wallet in its right place — so that it was not thrown or tossed, but simply rode atop the car — with all of its contents intact.

Faith is not a power to be taken lightly.

Faith pushes us out of the realm of appearances and posits us in the reality of unlimited good.  Faith pulls us away from the consciousness where we simply ask God — and connects with the super-consciousness where our good has already manifested.  Faith catapults us beyond asking to believing that whatever we ask for, we receive.  Faith blesses us with a patience beyond human comprehension — to know that our good is here.

Faith is one of the 12 powers we are studying.  Although the foundation for our study is a book that Charles Fillmore wrote in 1930, entitled The Twelve Powers of Man (Unity Books), we are now able to expand our interpretation of the 12 powers within according to the teachings of our more ancient ancestors  — who developed a basis for spiritual power centers thousands of years before Fillmore was born.

The pineal gland — located in the brain behind the eyes — is said to be the physical entry of spiritual enlightenment, and through that illumination, it is also known as the gateway to faith.  It is the home of higher consciousness, healing power, and psychic perception.  In her book, Opening to Spirit, Caroline Shola Arewa, an expert on African teachings on the healing power of the   chakras, says that melatonin is excreted by the pineal gland, which encourages receptivity to the creative consciousness of Spirit.  Melatonin levels, Arewa says, are at their highest between the hours of 4 A.M. and 6 A.M., producing the best consciousness to create, meditate, and be more open and receptive to Spirit.

Our Faith Power is associated with deep indigo blue energy, which is said to be the color associated with the deep blue of midnight — an energy that radiates outward and encompasses all things with compassion and connection to all life.  It is in the evening, through dreams that Jacob receives spiritual messages.

The Bible says, in that place called “Peniel” (or Pineal), he “sees God face-to-face” — and his life is spared.  He is reborn in a new consciousness.  In the Spirit, one could say that his Pineal gland was opened.  The Bible says that the sun rose above him as he passed Peniel.  He saw with new light.  When we tap into and turn on the power associated with our Pineal Gland, our Faith organ, we see God face-to-face.

Peter represents Faith in the Bible.  He sometimes faltered, but he was also more steadfast than the other disciples.  He was the only one who actually tried to walk the water.

Whenever Jesus heals an affliction, he tells the person healed that it was their Faith that made them whole.  Through Faith, we know that God goes before us to make easy, joyous and successful our way — regardless of the appearances.  Through Faith, we can trust — like our sister who recovered her wallet on the top of her hood — that even what seems to have been lost will be restored.  Through Faith, we know that we are blessed and thus realize our blessings.

THE MAGIC IS HERE

love9When I began working on God is a Brown Girl, Too, I could not imagine how it would take shape, but I knew that I was called to create it.  When we are called to do something, spirit-moved into action, soul-motivated to be obedient to the Holy Spirit, we don’t have to worry about how it will take shape.  God goes before us to do the work that we are appointed us to do.  All of the pieces fall into place.  The right people show up to help us.  Mentors appear from seemingly out of nowhere to guide us.  New ideas bless us with creative expressions of divine source.  Resources that we had never imagined unfold our unlimited blessings.  And we witness the magic of the universe giving shape to something bigger than who we are in the flesh.

love For example, this weekend at the Awaken to Love Retreat, we will enjoy the magic of God is a Brown Girl Too unfolding a new story that recognizes that God is not limited but is constantly creating through an endless stream of love.  Gospel Songstress Sonya Johnson will bless us with some beautiful music from her album, Opera Singer Malesha Jessie will uplift us with her music ministry, Worship Leader Celestine Walker will bless us with her ministry, and beautiful and talented actor Aakhu Tuah Nera Freeman will perform selections from the God is a Brown Girl Too script.  And tomorrow evening, the magic begins.  Hope you will be joining us.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re a multimillionaire from Scarsdale or a brown girl from the South Bronx, the magic begins the moment you realize God is blessing you from a wellspring of inexhaustible source.  Look not to your life, nor to your right — just know that the magic is here.  The love of God is within our body temples, our soul auras and our minds re-wakening, just waiting to unfold good as us.   Some call it grace, some call it a miracle, some call it luck, some call it the silence.  Some simply say, “It is done.”

When you truly believe that it is done and you speak with a god-is-a-brown-girl-too-2010-listeningconsciousness of power and faith, Spirit will embrace  you with an abundance of success.  You will know without a doubt that all of those things that you need in the material world are manifesting right now.   You will start recognizing the pure potential that God is expressing as you.  You will no longer fear a retreat into the silence because you will know that God is always speaking to us: all we have to do is listen.

god-is-a-brown-girl-too-2010-awaken-to-love-threeStop tip-toeing around the periphery of your greatness and allow your magic to begin with the understanding that Spirit is the omnipotent creator of the shape and form and texture of everything in your midst!  Open your heart to the power that is never separate from who you are in Spirit.  Jesus said that you are such a magnificent heir to the throne that all you have to do is ask, and it is done.

god-is-a-brown-girl-too-2010-awaken-to-loveAwaken to the truth that that the Kingdom of God is within us.  Awaken to power of Love — anointing you and cleansing you and expressing as you.  The magic, the Kingdom that you have long prayed for, is here.  It is done!  Judge not by the appearances of less or the vision of lack.  See rightly the success that is always shining its light through you.  We do not need the economic appearances of health, the promises of others, the limited resources that we see in the physical world.  The only thing that we need is the full and complete understanding of our divine nature.
